FROM:

SUBJECT:
Fringe Benefit Rates for July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024

The following fringe benefit rates are effective for the period beginning July 1, 2023 for the University of Wisconsin–Madison and will be used when charging the employer’s contribution to fringe benefits on all new and ongoing extramural projects. The rates will also be used for the former UW-Extension units which have been transferred to the Universities of Wisconsin.

Regular Faculty and Academic Staff 36.5%
University Staff 37.8%
Research Associates and Grad Interns 19.8%
Research Assistants, Project Assistants, Teaching Assistants, Pre-Doc Fellows and/or Trainees 22.5%
Post-Doc Fellows and/or Trainees 16.4%
Limited Term Employees (LTE's) 4.8%
Ad Hoc Program Specialists, Undergraduate Assistants and Undergraduate Interns 6.8%
Student Hourly Employees 1.5%

Rates are based on the actual costs of benefits paid during the fiscal year July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022. Increases or decreases in the rates are due to DHHS’ required methodology for the handling of previous year’s under- or over-recovery of actual costs.

The specific components for each rate are detailed in a schedule that has been published at: https://rsp.wisc.edu/chap4/rn/rn23-2t.cfm

We appreciate your assistance in assuring that all projects incorporate the above rates going forward.
