Grants.gov is intended to be the single portal for the submission of all Federal grant applications. Many federal granting agencies are already requiring proposal submission through Grants.gov. The UW has formed a campus Task Force to prepare for the full Federal implementation of Grants.gov. The Grants.gov Task Force and the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs (RSP) want to share with you the steps we are taking in preparation.

The Task Force consists of representatives from many colleges & schools across campus, including Associate Deans for Research. This Task Force is meeting frequently to develop materials to assist you in this new process. RSP is keeping the campus informed of updates, training sessions, and tools on their website: www.rsp.wisc.edu/preaward/grantsgov.html

There are a few key pieces of information we want to share with you at this time:

1. Registration: The University is registered. No individual must register with Grants.gov. All that is required by UW applicants is to use DUNS #161202122 on any application. The FIND portion of Grants.gov does NOT require registration.

2. Filling out the Application Forms:
a. The application forms for all programs are in a standard format but a format which differs slightly from the individual agency forms you are accustomed to. PLAN AHEAD. PureEdge is the software required to complete the new application form packages. It will take more time to complete these forms until you become more familiar with them and the software.
b. Macintosh Users: Note that the PureEdge software required to complete the new forms only functions in a PC environment. You will need to either use a PC or use available workarounds. Please see http://www.rsp.wisc.edu/preaward/macusers.html for information. PLAN AHEAD!!!

3. Solutions in process: It is strongly recommended that you do not entertain individual purchase of a software solution as a tool to complete Grants.gov applications. The Grants.gov Task Force is reviewing vendor solutions for completion of and routing of forms on a campus level. We anticipate having phased solutions available in the coming months.

4. Contacts: Should you have any questions regarding the Task Force or the existing campus process, please contact Diane Barrett, Grants.gov Task Force Chair and Assistant Director of RSP, at 26 2-0252 or barrett@rsp.wisc.edu. In addition, many of the Schools/Colleges also have individuals in their Research Administration Offices to assist with Grants.gov questions and submission. Please do not hesitate to contact those Offices also.
