Recently, Research and Sponsored Programs initiated a pilot project for NSF and DHHS proposal processing and award administration by creating a new work group entitled "Streamline Team for Research Administration of NSF and DHHS" (STRAND). This project breaks down the barrier between pre- and post-award administration, and combines experience in NSF's FastLane electronic administration process with development of the NIH Commons.

The team consists of the following members: Lois Brako, interim STRAND manager, Joyce Pease, Monya Schulenberg, Beth Walsh, and Larry Westby. Although each member eventually will be trained to answer questions for all NSF and DHHS proposal and award processes, for campus convenience, the current arrangement is suggested for primary and secondary points of contact:

The STRAND team is being trained both by RSP staff members with long years of NSF and DHHS experience (Cheri Gest, Chuck Hoffman, Bob Perkl, Jim Erickson, Harvey Douma), and by RSP’s IT staff members Rob Lawrence and Mark Sweet, who are working with federal agency colleagues to develop new electronic tools for research administration.

The attached RSP Directory reflects changes in staff responsibility. Also, the attached factual data sheet lists current signature authority. Effective August 16, 1999, Lois Brako will sign all NSF and DHHS grant proposals and other official documents.
