We have received a number of reports with errors and difficulties launching Microsoft Word & Excel attachments using WISPER in an Internet Explorer browser. We have found a tip that may help in many of the cases. It requires you to have administrative rights to your machine, but will facilitate the launching of Microsoft Word & Excel documents:

1. Go to Start - Control Panel.

2. Double-click on Folder Options.

3. Click the File Types tab.

File type select doc

4. Scroll down to the file type "DOC" - "Microsoft Office Word 97 - 2003 Document" and click.

5. Click the "Advanced" button while "DOC" is highlighted.

6. Make sure to UNCHECK all checkboxes: Confirm open after download, Always show extension and Browse in same window.

File Type Uncheck boxes

7. After verifying that all boxes are unchecked, click "OK" and "OK" again.

You'll need to repeat steps 4 through 7 for Excel as well. Scroll to XLS file type, select Advanced, uncheck the boxes. Confirm with OK on the Advanced Screen and OK on the File Types Screen.
